As a photography professor, I am always looking for ways to show my students how to setup lighting assignments. When I use a whiteboard, it is always stick figures and ugly drawing. Today, I discovered a great resource for photographers and anyone who teaches photography – Sylights. This free website allows you to create scale drawings of your lighting setups and add up to 5 photos. Great idea and service! They also have an iPhone app which allows you to do it in the field. According to their feedback page, they are working on making those drawings link to your account on their website and they are also working on an iPad version.
This is a great find for me and I will be sharing it with my students this coming year. I have tried to have them draw their lighting setups in the past, and this may be another way to have them explore light and how it affects photography.
