If you haven’t stumbled upon The Photo Society yet, you’re missing a great site dedicated to showcasing quality photography. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the photographers featured on the site have produced at least one photo story for National Geographic.
The site is an interesting one that has images from the different photographers rotating on the front page while highlighting the name in a cloud tag system. The site was built by Randy Olson.
There are some interesting pages on the site that will give you an insightful look at what a NG photographer faces while on assignment. Take a look at the Reality Check page to get an idea. According to the page, 90 photographers have face severe diarrhea, 30 have suffered from wound infections, 33 were either arrested or faced house arrest and 13 were robbed.
I’m looking forward to seeing where this site goes and how it can influence young photographers. I know I’ll be using it in my classes to showcase some excellent photographers and their work.
